Getting started
How do I play?
Woven Words is a crossword you fill in with letter tiles. Drag tiles from your rack onto the board to spell out the answers to the clues around it. Place all five tiles in a turn and you earn a bonus.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play as a guest and your progress is saved. Signing in with email, Google or Apple lets you keep that progress if you change phones — a guest account can't be recovered once it's gone.
Can I play on my own?
Yes. There's a single-player storyline, Blitz mode against the clock, and Shuffle puzzles. You can also challenge WordWeaver, our bot, any time — it plays instantly, so you never wait.
Multiplayer
How do turns work?
Games are turn-based, not live. You place your tiles, submit, and your opponent plays whenever they next open the app. A game can last minutes or days. You have 60 seconds once your turn starts.
How do I know when it's my turn?
Turn on notifications and we'll tell you. You'll be asked the first time you start a multiplayer game, and you can change it any time in Settings under Turn Alerts.
If you turned notifications down and want them back, switch Turn Alerts on in Settings. If your phone is blocking them entirely, you'll need to allow notifications for Woven Words in your device's system settings first.
How do I play a specific person?
Create a game and choose Challenge User, then search their display name. They'll need to have an account and have told you their exact name.
What happens if someone quits?
They forfeit and you win, even if they were ahead on points. You'll get the win, the gems, and the XP.
The same happens if you quit — so if you're stuck in a game you don't want, forfeiting is fine. Your opponent gets the win rather than waiting forever.
Gems and coins
What's the difference?
Gems start games and buy things. Coins buy in-game help during a game.
How do I get gems?
You start with 10. Winning a multiplayer game pays 2. Some achievements pay out too.
How do I get coins?
You earn coins for every point you score. You can also buy 100 coins for 5 gems in the shop.
What does a game cost?
1 gem to start a multiplayer game. Winning pays back 2, so winning half your games keeps you even.
If you queue for a random opponent, the gem is held while you wait and comes back if you cancel before matching.
What do the power-ups cost?
Free Answer — 80 coins. Fills in a whole word.
50/50 — 40 coins. Removes half the wrong options.
Add Time — 25 coins. Adds 60 seconds to your turn.
Tile Swap — 25 coins. Swaps tiles you don't want.
Your account
How do I change my display name?
Open your profile and tap your name. Note that other players can see your display name, avatar, level and game records, so pick something you're happy being seen.
How do I delete my account?
Settings, then Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, gems, level, records and friends list, frees up your display name, and forfeits any games in progress — your opponents win them. It can't be undone.
If you're playing as a guest, signing out deletes your account, because there's no way to sign back in. We'll warn you before that happens.
What do you do with my data?
Only what's needed to run the game. We don't show ads, we don't use analytics or tracking, and we don't sell anything. The full details are in our Privacy Policy: Here
Problems
A clue or answer looks wrong
Tell us. There's a report option on the board review screen, or email riftstudiosllc@gmail.com with the puzzle and the word. We fix these regularly.
My game is stuck or won't load
Close the app fully and reopen it. If a game is still stuck after that, email us the opponent's name and roughly when you last played, and we'll take a look.
I'm not getting notifications
Check Turn Alerts is on in Settings, and that notifications are allowed for Woven Words in your device settings. Notifications only go out for multiplayer turns — single-player and Blitz don't send any.
I lost my progress
If you were playing as a guest, progress is tied to that device and can't be recovered once you sign out or delete the app. Signing in with email, Google or Apple protects against this. If you were signed in and something's missing, email us and we'll investigate.
